Personal Summary / Bio
Dr. Penniman is a violist da gamba (one of the only performers in the world on the electric “Ruby” gamba), guitarist, bassist, synthesist, composer and educator. Based in Kansas City, MO, he holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Operation of Early Music Programs from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, a Master of Music in Historical Musicology from Florida State University, where he also taught viola da gamba for three years, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis on historical musicology from Marylhurst University in Portland, Oregon. His day job as mild-mannered Dr. Victor Penniman, Associate Professor of Music at Rockhurst University serves as the perfect foil for his secret identity. Dr. Penniman has performed with numerous historically informed ensembles, as well as countless modern groups covering a wide variety of genres. His current solo project, G. Nome, combines the electric Ruby Gamba with synthesizers, acoustic (including Medieval) instruments, and other electric instruments in a unique and dynamic one-man show.
