Personal Summary / Bio
Dr. Maria Mika Guénette began her studies at the age of eight and made her debut, at the age of fourteen, with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. Since then, she actively participated in numerous solo and collaborative performances in Canada, USA, Japan and Austria including appearances on CBC radio, Japanese National (NHK) radio and more recently on WDAV radio in North Carolina where she was heard performing Rameau's Pieces for the Harpsichord in G minor. Currently, she is keyboardist (piano, harpsichord continuo and celeste) for the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. She was awarded a Doctor of Music degree specializing in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music with a minor in Baroque Performance Practice at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. It was during this time that she was given the opportunity to further explore harpsichord repertoire, and as a result, she attained a Masters degree in Harpsichord Performance. Her mentors were Dr. Jean Barr, Dr. William Porter, Arthur Haas and Paul O'Dette. Upon graduating from Eastman, she has worked with renowned early music specialists, such as Brent Wissick, Gesa Kordes, Barbara Krumdieck and Rebecca Troxler.
