Personal Summary / Bio
Tracy Cowart (mezzo-soprano) enjoys a wide range of vocal interests,
from 12th-century polyphony to contemporary art music. Praised by the New York Times as “the real attraction”
with a voice that is “light and lithe,” Tracy has performed with a number of
period ensembles, including Apollo’s Fire, La Donna Musicale, Opera
Lafayette, the Trinity Cathedral Chamber Orchestra, the Washington
Bach Consort, and the choir of the Church of the Advent. Also known
for her interpretations of new music, she is the resident mezzo-soprano for The Great Noise Ensemble with which she
recently performed “Hadewijch” in Louis Andriessen’s Die Materie and the world premiere of Armando Bayolo’s Kaddish:
Passio: Rothko.
Tracy received her MM in Early Music from the Longy School of
Music and is currently pursuing a DMA in the same at Case Western Reserve
University. She studies with Ellen
Hargis and Nina Hinson.
