Personal Summary / Bio
Named for a colonial route that once spanned much of central Virginia, Three Notch’d Road: The Charlottesville Baroque Ensemble was founded in 2011 by local period-instrument specialists David McCormick (baroque violin), Fiona Hughes (baroque violin), and Anne Timberlake (recorder). The group seeks to enrich the local performing arts scene by bringing an exciting and informed approach to music of the baroque era. Already, the group has been lauded for stylish performances alongside eminent baroque dancer Paige Whitley-Bauguess at the 2011 Bach-Handel Festival in Winchester, Virginia.
Highlights from our first two seasons:
- Three Notch'd Road gave its first performances at the Bach-Handel Festival in Winchester, Virginia in October of 2011 and was invited to return again in 2012. These performances featured collaborations with eminent baroque dancer Paige Whitley-Bauguess and countertenor Charles Humphries.
- The James River Arts Council sponsored a free performance of TNR's May 2012 program "Joy & Anguish" at Scottsville Presbyterian Church and has invited the group back for another free performance in February.
- In May 2012, TNR was featured in the "Bach's Lunch" concert series at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlottesville. The ensemble will once again be a part of this series in May 2013.
- In December 2012, TNR performed music of Bach, Vivaldi, and Charpentier with the University of Virginia Chamber Singers. An enthusiastic audience of over 400 gave the combined ensembles two rousing standing ovations.
