Two hundred years of glorious four-part string music beginning with the high renaissance and culminating in the Viennese string quartet. Repast’s program includesearly four-part music by Palestrina, Praetorius, Matthew Locke, and ThomasSimpson; baroque music by Purcell and Bononcini; parts of Bach’smagisterial Art of the Fugue; and concludes with Joseph Haydn – the “beginning”of the classical string quartet.
