Choir of St. Luke in the Fields, directed by David Shuler, with an ensemble of period instruments

Music that might have been heard on Christmas Eve in Rome in the early 18th century. The concert will feature Alessandro Scarlatti’s "Messa per il Santissimo Natale", a Christmas mass composed in the Roman polychoral style for two choirs and strings. The music captures the essence of the Christmas narrative, from the joyously dancing violin ritornellos to the reverence of the Nativity scene. In addition, the program will include festive motets by Scarlatti and Giacomo Carissimi and organ works by Bernardo Pasquini. Pre-concert lecture at 7 PM.
