"Pleasures" of the court and countryside are highlighted in the Columbia Baroque Soloists final concert of the season Sunday, April 7 at Columbia College in the Spears Fine Arts Center Recital Hall with Concert Conversations beginning at 4 p.m. and the Concert at 4:30 p.m. The program features the South Carolina premiere of Charpentier's delightful comic chamber opera, "Les Plaisirs de Versailles." The light-hearted opera was composed to be performed in the apartment of King Louis XIV. The concert also includes dances from Rebel's ballet "Les Plaisirs Champetres" which portrays the pleasures of the countryside with the warm sonorities of recorders, strings and harpsichord. The Telemann Trio Sonata in F major for recorder and viola da gamba showcases Telemann's skill in writing for recorder with the gamba providing the ideal partnership.
