Choir of St. Luke in the Fields with an orchestra of period instruments
Pre-concert lecture: Dr. Raymond Erickson
The first North American performance of this monumental dramatic work. Telemann composed over 40 Passion settings during his tenure as principal Cantor in the city of Hamburg, working in the grand German tradition that included the Passions of his colleague J.S. Bach. The St. Luke Passion of 1748 is one of Telemann’s finest, sumptuously scored, engagingly capturing the drama, agony and ultimate triumph found in the Holy Week story.
