The centerpiece of our program is Robert Levin's reconstruction of Mozart's Symphonie Concertante for winds & orchestra. Through his research, Professor Levin uncovered the work's fascinating history, full of itinerant soloists, artistic power struggles, and anonymous copyists. Mr. Levin will be speak on this at 2:30pm.
Weber's overture to Der Freischütz features perhaps the most famous horn quartet of the early 19th century, and our listeners will have the pleasure of hearing it on natural horns. Schubert's “Unfinished” Symphony needs no introduction, with its haunting opening in the low strings and sublime slow movement.
