La Donna Musicale and RUMBARROCO celebrate Women’s History Month with Latinas: Music by Latin American Women Composers and Arrangers. The program includes music from the 16th century to the present. The music – early and contemporary, concert, folk, popular and fusion – is as varied as the individual personalities countries of its creators, nine composers/arrangers from Venezuela, Cuba, Chile, Mexico and Argentina. All of the music was composed or arranged for the early and folk instruments that make up this unique ensemble, including recorders, viola da gamba, harpsichord, early and Venezuelan guitars, percussion, bass, and voices. All of it shares the passionate expressiveness and tremendous rhythmic vitality that have drawn audiences throughout the ages to music of the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America.
