David Shuler, organist

Pre-concert lecture: Dr. Sarah Davies

Masterpieces of programmatic music from the Baroque period, including a rare performance of Johann Kuhnau’s remarkable Biblical Sonatas. Each sonata is based on a dramatic Old Testament story and composed in an overtly programmatic manner popular among late seventeenth century composers.  The concert will include major works by Nicolas Bruhns and Dieterich Buxtehude telling the stories of Orpheus, David and Goliath, and the creation of the world.
