A program of late Renaissance and early Baroque music from the Polish courts, almost all of which has been drawn from the little-known "Polocki" manuscript (Jagiellonian Library), dating from the mid 1600s. This collection of music was found in Poland in 1962 inside the cover of a missal, dated 1680 and was published in modern notation in 1970. Only the melody and bass lines to over 200 short pieces exist, but Greensleaves has reconstructed, arranged, elaborated, and combined many of them into a program of exciting and lovely repertoire. Included are traditional period pieces such as pavanes, galliards, canzonas, etc., as well as dances and songs with a clearly Polish flavour, at times elegant and touching, and at times rustic, boisterous, and humorous.
