In this concert Dr. Whiteside talks about and performs on the “queen” of the pre-modern harps, a 75 string chromatic Italian baroque triple harp. She has chosen remarkable music from 16th and 17th century Italy, England, and Spain.
By the 16th century, a new type of harp was needed to perform the increasingly chromatic music being composed. And so, in Italy the triple strung harp was invented – 3 rows of strings, one for every needed note.
Only a handful of harpists in the world perform on this historical instrument. Matching the period of the harp and performance style to the period of the music entirely transforms the listening experience. Do not miss this rare opportunity to hear the Italian baroque triple harp.
