This is by no means a complete listing of foundations that fund early music in the U.S.; it is simply a list of foundations that EMA itself has appealed to or received funding from over the years. EMA has been located in three areas: New York City, Cleveland, and Seattle, so the foundations from those areas are more numerous in this list. It is important to remember that most foundations fund LOCALLY, in fairly restricted geographic areas. Your best source of funding is likely to come from foundations located in your city or region. Many libraries have resources about grant research and writing. A good source of information about grants in general is the Foundation Center at http://fdncenter.org
Other excellent sources of funding are your local and state government arts agencies and the National Endowment for the Arts (http://www.arts.gov). This foundation list does not include government agencies.
