Paragraph about the ensemble:
Gravitación is the Midwest’s most exciting new ensemble for early music.
Formed through a mutual respect for medieval, renaissance and baroque repertoire, the members of Gravitación embrace the understanding that early music has many possibilities for vocal color, poetic expression, and connection with audiences. While historically informed, Gravitación is committed to achieving meaningful music experiences for the modern time, combining scholarship, passion, and humor. The name Gravitación (gravitational force) represents our international backgrounds, (Sherezade Panthaki from India, Daniel Carberg and Jay Carter from the USA and Matthew Leese from New Zealand), and describes the way in which music has ‘pulled’ us together with the same passion for early music. Depending on the program, the quartet is augmented by guest artists.
Gravitación has recently released their second album with First Step Records, a CD of virtuoso Italian madrigals called 'Le Stagioni' for five voices and theorbo.
